Los Angeles Lakers sue Barney (PBS Kids) over the color purple
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Lakers basketball board of trustees has filed a motion in federal court today to sue PBS Kids network over the use of the color purple on children’s television character “Barney”. The color, which Lakers spokeswoman Angela McKinden stated had been “blatantly copied” from the Los Angeles Laker’s official logo, has been used on the children’s programming network since early 1992. McKinden later quoted that “no-one is above the law, even lovable children’s characters”. The California Federal Court will be hearing the case this following Friday. PBS has declined to speak publicly on the pending litigation, but released a short press release to internal employees, stating that the lawsuit was “ludicrous” and “factually inaccurate”.
